Psst...Here’s How You Can Buy My Topo Zippo Early
It's a busy week with tons of drops, new faces on YouTube, and a couple of knife events happening this weekend...
Hey there,
This week started remarkably slow. I wasn’t even sure I was going to have much to share with you. By Thursday, there were more drops and things going on than I could manage. So get ready, this is a long one. But don’t skip too far ahead, you don’t want to miss anything.

This Week at BDEDC
Customizing My Entire EDC
We got a laser engraver from xTool and decided to have some fun with it. I didn’t just laser some stuff on my gear, though. I acid-etched a blade, did some anodizing, and more. This one was a hell of a lot of fun and, if you like the looks of that Lookout we modded, stay tuned. 😏
(P.S. If you can’t figure out how to watch the video yet, you should subscribe to the email list already.)
Best Damn Zippo Drop
I’ve been keeping this one secret for some time, but Best Damn EDC Topo Zippos in brass will go live on Exclusive at 2 pm EDT. Copper tier Patreon supporters get 24-hour early access to all Best Damn EDC and Carry Commission drops, but as a thank you for being an early adopter of this newsletter, this link will give you a few hours of early access, too.
Going Live for BLADECON
Whatnot is hosting a virtual knives and hunting expo called BLADECON this weekend. I’ll be participating today at 2:30 pm EDT. I will also have a few more brass Zippos to sell and plenty of giveaways. Come hang out for a while. It’s fun and always gets a little weird!

ICYMI
10/21: Artisan Cutlery released the acrylic-handled Holm on Monday. They’re available in two variations: PVD blade with Deep Space Purple inlays and Stonewashed blade with Deep Sea Blue inlays. The Holm is a button lock knife with a secondary safety lock and 3.1” (78.7 mm) Wharncliffe blade in AR-RPM9 steel. They are in stock and available for $56.99 on Artisan’s website. |
10/21: Earlier this week, ZeroFeud dropped their 2024 fall beads. The McGoblin Orange, McBoo White, and McWitch Green all come in three size options (small, medium, and large). All the beads are cerakote 6061 aluminum and $22. Unfortunately, our personal favorite and unethically sourced, Brain Juice Can Bead, sold out earlier in the week. All other beads save for the Large McGoblin Orange are still in stock at the time of this writing. |
10/21: Our good friend Zac in the Wild and Civivi launched the much-awaited and award-winning Yonder. The first knife design from Zac, this knife is exactly what you’d expect from our well-read, hard-working, adventuring friend. With a 14C28N spey-style blade, crossbar lock (a first for Civivi), and a full-grip handle, it’s the perfect adventure knife. These are available at Civivi, BladeHQ, SMKW, and all your favorite dealers now in three configs. |
10/23: As you may recall, Josh from Primitive Woodsman lost his shop to a landslide due to Hurricane Helene. To make the best of a bad situation, Primitive Woodsman and Ridgerunner Blades teamed up to do an exclusive run of the Foxfire called the Foxfire LANDSLIDE. This is one of the only knives Josh can make at the moment. He even pulled the rubber he’s using for the handles from the rubble of his shop. This is being run as a presale and is expected to ship in early December. |
Upcoming Drops and Events
10/25: SPK Unlimited will have a very limited drop of the elusive Lamia today at noon EDT. There are just 20 pieces available for $850 a pop—first come, first serve. This drop is a blacked-out Lamia with plain titanium hardware, a black electro-coated titanium handle, and a random etch 135-layer martensitic Alleima Damax blade. These will also ship with Skiff bearings. |
10/25: Knife Standards is restocking the RR3 in Vanax SuperClean, an extremely corrosion-resistant blade steel. The RR3 is the smallest knife design from Knife Standards and the first liner lock. It’s a sleek little folder with perks like a reversible deep carry wire clip, dual thumb studs, and a front flipper. It also features some sleek design choices like a decorative captive pivot, angular contouring on the handles, and thin fat carbon fiber inlays. |
10/26-10/27: The California Custom Knife Show (CCKS), hosted by Recon1, is taking place this weekend in Woodland Hills, CA. This knife show might be smaller than Blade Show in volume, but it’s a who’s who in the knife game with heavy hitters like Borka Blades, Shirogorov, and Chris Reeve Knives in attendance. While the show officially starts tomorrow, the Friday Night Blade Affair kicks off tonight with lotteries and open-bid auctions for some incredibly special pieces. |
10/25: Arcane Design is dropping the latest variation of The CREATURE, the Bronze Age. Offered in 20CV steel and either belt satin or PVD finishes, the CREATURE will be available with either an American Compound Tanto or Drop Point blade. The product pages are already live, so you can check all the technical specs for each model. These land today at 3 pm EDT and will be priced at $355. |
10/28: Tons of knife models from Pro-Tech Knives are landing at dealers starting this week. To name a few, the Mordax, TR-2, TR-3 (Integrity and auto), TR-4, TR-5, Godson, and Halfbreed are landing in fairly standard configurations. However, more special editions are also arriving, such as the 25th Anniversary edition Runt 5, 2024 ATCF Custom with maple burl inlays and Mike Irie hand-ground mirror polished spear point blade, and a “Since 1999” NEXUS Malibu in Al-Bronze with a mosaic button. |
10/28: Nitecore is set to release its latest EDC flashlight, the EDC23. Not much is known about this smaller cousin to the EDC27 and EDC29 other than it has the same rectangular styling as the larger lights, a max lumen output of 2500 lumens with a UHi LED, and the same dual tail switch. It’s also likely USB-C rechargeable and features an OLED real-time display. These drop on Monday, but no pricing has been made official. |
10/29: In collaboration with renowned designer Jared Oeser, Tactile Knife Co will release its second slip joint knife, The Ranger, next Tuesday. The Ranger boasts a 3.15” (80 mm) MagnaCut bowie-style blade, a natural micarta shield, and titanium hardware and handles. It’s a perfect blend of modern and traditional. Having carried one myself, it’s clear that Tactile Knife Co is stepping up its game with each new release. The Ranger will be $349 at launch. |
10/31: Null Knives is holding a Halloween drop on Thursday at 1 pm EDT. Included in this drop are a restock of the Copper Voodoos, a new Bronze Ghoul, and Arctic Storm Raikous. This drop is taking place on Halloween at 1 pm EDT. The product pages are already live, so you can check out all of the variants and all the relevant details, but they won’t be available for purchase until drop time. |
Open Preorders
If you missed out on the last batch of USA-made Big Idea Design Lookouts, there is an open preorder on their site right now for all four configs: Black G-10, Tigerwood, Ultem, and Natural Micarta. Expected delivery is late November and you can use coupon code CARRYON for 10% off.
The preorder for the Mr. Mr. Designs ÆON is still open. This Bestech-made flipper is available for preorder for $265 through the end of the year, though there is an expected wait time of six to seven months.
Carry of the Week
via Jerry Kesselmayer
None of the items I carry every day are particularly special or rare. Everything is very budget-friendly and utilitarian.
The Zippo is the one piece of my carry that’s the most special, it was my grandfather’s and was given to me (along with the rest of his Zippo collection) after he passed and it’s something that I will always have to remember him by. He always had a knife and a Zippo on him—no matter where he went—and I guess he passed that trait on to me!
The Hitchhiker is the newest addition in my pocket and I love it already, thanks for putting me on to it Taylor!

ZAC IS BACK
I repeat. ZAC IS BACK. We were all heartbroken when Zac and Jamie announced they’d be leaving YouTube. They didn’t shut the door fully, and Zac has returned to showcase his new knife with Civivi, the Yonder. We got a couple at Blade Show West and can attest, it’s pretty great. And it’s exactly what you’d expect from Zac—Civivi reliability, a great working blade, and no frills (unless you opt for the Damascus version).
Seth30V Ranks Knives
Seth Vietti, or Seth30V (nice) on YouTube, who you likely already know from Knife Center, uploaded an hour-long collection video where he ranks his entire hoard of knives from worst to best. Seth is a super chill guy and this is a great, chill watch with a lot of unusual and awesome knives.
