G-Shock Killer? Plus Speed Holes, Smoked Meats, and Knife News
RZE takes aim at the rugged digital watch crown, McNees punches holes in the MAC 2, and I talk Redhawk live.

We’re in that weird quiet-before-the-storm moment—post-Blade Show Texas and pre-Blade Show Atlanta. It won’t stay calm for long, though.
Between live streams (later today), my own gear drops, and upcoming events, there’s plenty to talk about in Best Damn EDC Land. So grab a coffee (or a dram), and let’s catch up.
Let’s do the damn thing!
Table of Contents
Upcoming at BDEDC
I’m going live on YouTube today at 1 PM EDT to answer all your questions about the Tactile Knife Co. Redhawk, my new knife design coming out in the next two months. Come hang with Rikki and me and ask away.
We’ll also be going live on Whatnot at 4 PM EDT today to hang out, sell some gear, and do a buyer’s appreciation giveaway of an Artisan Cutlery Boa in full-timascus with a mirror-polished blade.
Georgia Bushcraft Spring Campout is just around the corner. I’ll be in attendance, hanging out and possibly smoking meats. The Spring Campout offers weekend workshops on self-reliance, off-grid living, and gear. Plus, there’s camping, vendors, and community. It’s happening April 4-6. See you there.
Carry Commission Drop
Last night, we had a drop on Carry Commission for a new Carhartt T-shirt, an MMTW Lander 4 restock, and the Paladin33 x CC Waxed Canvas Belt Bag. I’m a little biased, but they’re all sick. Grab them while they last.

Carry of the Week
I’m a photographer and filmmaker living on a hobby farm in Minnesota, so my carry has to work from desk to dirt.
The knife and light rotate, but some things are permanent. The Gundeck Mini is the only wallet I’ve truly loved—compact, functional, and pocket-friendly. The TiScribe pen is another favorite; integrated bolt and clip, and nearly impossible to find since the company shut down.
I recently swapped my Apple Watch for the Big Idea Design Ti Field Watch, and honestly, I don’t miss the notifications. It’s rugged, comfortable, and fits my lifestyle.
Keys are a necessary evil, but a leather wrap with a stud keeps them pocket-friendly.
After years of wanting one, I finally picked up a Sea Otter—solid, practical, and worth the wait. Same with the DCO—still my favorite light.
Featured This Week
RZE Watches has opened preorders for the UTD-8000, a rugged, titanium digital tool watch built for extreme conditions. Designed and tested in the Canadian North, it’s resistant to water, dust, corrosion, shock, scratches, and temperature extremes. We also ran over it with my Raptor. Twice. And it was totally fine. Regardless, it’s backed by a lifetime guarantee. Preorders are open now, with three color variants up for grabs. They’re expected to arrive in June 2025. |
The final drop of the Berg Blades SLiM Mini 2.0 happened last night. There are five final variants to choose from: Damasteel with Green Micarta and damasteel collars, Damasteel with Green Micarta and black hardware, Marble CF and Bright DLC, Green Micarta and Dark Stonewashed Blade, and Natural Micarta with Satin Blade. There is also a Zircuti Kit available for those who want to spice it up even more. |
McNees Knives is bringing a fresh twist to the PM MAC 2 with speed holes—a nod to past designs featured in Jonathan McNees’ early custom knives. This high-speed, low-drag version is less about weight reduction and all about visual flair. If you never had the opportunity to snag a true custom, this is as close as you’ll get with a modern PM MAC 2. These hit the site later today. |
GlowRhino is releasing a new fob today. Not much is known, but judging by the video, it looks like a special Cerakote batch or two-tone colorways.
Our friend Tom of NotoriousEDC is dropping Big Poppas and NFGs in new Cerakote finishes—Burnt Orange, Root Beer, or OD/FDE—today at 1 PM EDT.
Gavko’s new CIVIVI Sixgill—with a Nitro-V reverse tanto blade, crossbar lock, and a sleek, curvy EDC design—drops March 27.
Shawn Ashmore of Peace Neighbor is dropping more ARCHONS—an all-titanium, USA-made pry with a bottle opener and pocket clip—at 2 PM EDT.
The Knafs Lander 5, a $30 frame lock edition of the Lander series, is funded on Kickstarter. Get one for $25 before the campaign ends on March 28.
Also, Knafs restocked both the Lander 2 and Lander 3 Clip Point variants. The clip point, paper micarta handles, and gold accents make these my favorite Lander versions (except for MMTW, of course).
