We’ve been nose to the grindstone at Best Damn EDC, getting gift guides out the door and prepping for a very knife-heavy month of drops at Carry Commission. We still have some guides coming (this Saturday) and roundups of this year's best gear. So stick around for that, but for now, check out the gift guides we’ve already published.

Carry Commission Drops
On Thanksgiving day, we restocked the bronze topo Tactile Knife Co Bexar collaboration on Carry Commission. If you missed that restock, don’t worry. We still have some in stock right now.
This week, however, we’ve got some heavy hitters landing on Carry Commission. We’ve got a handful of LTWK Frontier Valleys in both OD micarta and python mircarta that will drop on Tuesday at 8 PM EST. The Pro-Tech Malibu with topo milled handles is also back, but this time in a few new configurations, all with Wharncliffe blades. More on that soon…

Last month, the Pro-Tech Knives Enthusiast's Underground Facebook group was deleted, without warning. It was 7,000 members strong and a lifeline for many of Pro-Tech’s dealers to reach customers. Pro-Tech also had many Facebook Group exclusives and a very active community, so they’re building back with a new group to join if you’ve found yourself pining for the old one: Pro-Tech Enthusiasts. |
Citing that the project hasn’t received the time or love it deserves, Arcform has announced that it will be closing its doors. The remaining inventory has been discounted heavily and will remain available into next year. Even after the site and email are offline, Arcform states they will honor their warranty through their sister brand, Flytanium. While this is the end of Arcform, it may not be the end of some of their designs as they mention some products may live on in some form. |
On a similar note, Adam Purvis of A Purvis Blades has announced he will no longer be making knives. Following a preorder for a button lock variant of the Primordial, Purvis uploaded a video to Instagram announcing he canceled the preorder, calling it a “failure.” Purvis also announced he will no longer be making production knives and might continue to make clips at an uncertain pace, “maybe three or four” clips per month or “zero.” |
Big Idea Design announced their Chattanooga machine shop late last year and has since released a few fixed blades and an Ultem Fountain EDC out of the Tennessee shop. Last week, however, they debuted one of their most popular and longstanding models as their first-ever USA-made ballpoint pen, the Pocket Pro in phosphor bronze. They are available now for $120. |
Orbital Knives has officially launched with its first model, the Callisto. This knife is a surprisingly great sub-$100 offer with a milled titanium pocket clip, titanium backspacer, and 154CM blade for just $89. Designed by Eddy Martinez, the OEM for the Callisto is Kansept Knives, and it comes in three variations: blue or natural micarta with a stonewashed blade, or red and black Gmascus with a coated stonewashed blade. You can pick up a Callisto on the Orbital Knives website. |
Knafs recently launched the Lander 2 in a new clip point blade shape and with a vintage aesthetic. For those of you who prefer a slightly smaller folder, you’ll be happy to know they also released the same brown paper micarta, gold studded version of the Lander 3 Clip Point on Black Friday. While the Lander 2 Clip Point is sold out, the Lander 3 is still in stock at the time of this writing. |
Designed by Ken Onion, the OKNIFE XEN-OAL is currently on Kickstarter, and is already successfully funded, with over $150k pledged and 12 days to go. This is the first knife to use the proprietary OAL™ super aluminum, which has much better wear and scratch resistance than standard aluminum and is more comparable to alloy steel while remaining very lightweight at just 2.57oz (73g). Pricing starts at just $130 during the campaign but will jump to an MSRP of $189 once it’s concluded. |

Carry of the Week
I am a SLUT for Paradrop Leather gear. Steve’s craftsmanship speaks to my Texas soul. I have multiple Triariis, Paratus and Hastaties. This one I carry primarily for work since it is more of a rugged leather and bulky enough to carry in the pocket or in the lapel of my vest or jacket. I like the ability to carry multiple items in one caddy that never leaves the pocket unless I’m pulling it out to set on the end table at the end of the night. I’m able to access all the tools straight from the pocket in a pinch.
This Oz Machine Company Roosevelt features a great magnacut blade, it has been customized by some dear friends in the EDC community who gifted me the Rosie of their own accord. Under the guise of a “secret Santa” exchange they put the funds together and got me one on the secondary market. I unboxed it on my YouTube Channel and it brought tears to my eyes. It’s got the Lone Star State lasered on the show side scale, my last name is lasered on the back spacer and a scripture about brotherhood is etched on the inside of the scales. The hardware and clip have been anodized bronze and have patinaed very well over time.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with pure EDC gear gift guides, take a look at my buddy Carl Murawski’s guide. He’s got some EDC gear suggestions, but he also takes a look at a sweet jacket, packing cubes, and more. Also, Carl’s a really awesome dude and you should subscribe for more “buy once, cry once” style content.
Alex of OUTDOORS55 chimed in on the new legendary (and impossible to buy) Ozark Trail knife. He sharpened it a ton, cut a pile of cardboard, and put it under the microscope. He also tested the Rockwell hardness. It’s well worth the watch.
I love it when two worlds collide. Dan Becker and our good friend Ben Petersen teamed up to talk knives and backpacking. For us knife folk, there’s probably not much we don’t already know going on here, but it’s still a fun watch.
