The Real Truth About Knife Clones
Plus: The Multi-Tool Pulling in Millions on Kickstarter

Leatherman and Victorinox have been put on notice by what is shaping up to be one of the biggest and fastest Kickstarter campaigns in history, especially for the EDC world. It’s called the Smith Blade, a 21-in-1 titanium handled EDC multitool made by the Hacksmith YouTube channel, and has raised nearly $5 million in just two days.
It has a protractor, bubble level, pen, nail file, and tritium. It will certainly be interesting to see where this project goes. This is the kind of stuff I live for.
Anyway, we’ll dive deeper into that, as well as Deep Cuts, Carry Commission drops, and some giveaways.
Let’s do the damn thing.
Table of Contents
This Week At BDEDC
Deep Cuts
This week’s Deep Cuts brings the heat—and a few spicy takes. We kick off with a knife that nails the Goldilocks zone and hear some controversial knife clone confessions. Plus, we’ve got a blue-themed Carry of the Week, some Rikki vs Taylor action, what’s in my pockets, and more.
Carry Commission Drops
This week at Carry Commission, we restocked some of the most popular gear that we can’t keep in stock. We’ve got knife rolls, trays, and bucket bags from PNWBushcraft, as well as US-made Titanium sporks and tweezers from Brautigam Expedition Works.

Swiss Army Killer?
This week, we were introduced to the Smith Blade from Hacksmith over on YouTube. With an M390 blade and 20 other tools housed in its relatively trim handle, it’s their modernized take on the Swiss Army Knife.
After years of stagnation in the multitool space, this looks like a seriously legitimate new direction with some serious thought put into it. Here is the list of all 21 features:
Pocket knife
15-degree protractor
Nail file
Metric and Imperial rulers
Tweezers
Wire strippers
Reversible belt clip
Bottle opener
Pry bar/staple puller
Bit retention storage spring
Philips 4-mm bit
Flathead 4-mm bit
Pen 4-mm bit
SIM ejection tool/sewing awl
Glow-in-the-dark illuminator vial/Tritium vial
Ferrocerium fire striker
Tungsten metal scribe
Tungsten carbide emergency glass breaker
Bubble level
90-degree bit driver
Extended ruler on the edge of the blade
With nearly $5 million in funding in just two days, the Smith Blade is fully funded and happening with an estimated ship date of November 2025. You can back the project here.
Carry of the Week
I’m a YouTuber and my carry changes daily. The three things that almost never change are my Swiss Army Knife, SOG PowerPint and Gear Infusion EverRachet. The EverRachet and PowerPint work so well together.
My grandfather started me on my knife journey. He would take me fishing as a kid. Then as a teenager my dad and uncle started me on my love of camping. Those were the origins of my EDC life. All three of them are gone now but I will always have the great memories.
One piece of gear that I’m missing is the Civivi Clingman. The problem is that I want the black washed blade with the brown micarta or black micarta scales. Will those ever be available? Any way you can make that happen? lol
Lastly, when will your gas can lighter go on sale?
