The Worst Trends Ruining Everyday Carry

And a man who carried the same knife for 8 years... in his chest.

Last week, we told you about a guy’s unusal method for everyday carrying a knife, but this one might be even weirder. A 44-year-old man from Tanzania reported to doctors that pus was starting to come out of his right nipple. After getting some x-rays, doctors discovered that he had a knife lodged in his chest from an altercation the man had gotten in 8 years prior.

I don’t think that’s what they mean when they say sheathless fixed blade.

Anyway, we’ve got your take on the worst EDC trends, Leatherman pissing people off again, a hot drop on Carry Commission, and more this week.

Let’s do the damn thing.

This Week At BDEDC

Deep Cuts

This week, we’re talking about the worst trends in everyday carry. From titanium pry bars to bottle openers on everything, the community had plenty to say. We’ve also got some wild knife news (including a guy who lived eight years with a blade in his chest), Leatherman dropping sheaths and accessories, a new Show and Tell, giveaways, and more in this week’s Deep Cuts.

Carry Commission Drop

Earlier this week at Carry Commission, we restocked another collab, this time with Bilgewater Blades. The CC exclusive Jack Rabbit sports a 3.25” blade, 7” OAL, and textured micarta scales with a stonewashed CruWear blade. Each comes with a beautiful custom leather pocket sheath.

Leatherman À La Carte

A couple of weeks ago, it came to light that some orders from Leatherman’s own store were not shipping with the accessories that had previously been included. Upon digging further, it has since been confirmed, and it’s not a fluke. Dominic over at MAXLVLEDC confirmed that most of Leatherman’s multitools that have come with included belt sheaths no longer do. This also affects models, like the Arc, which previously shipped with a single sleeve of flat bits. That’s also off the table.

What that means is, now, if you want a Leatherman with a sheath, you have to buy it separately. You have to buy bits separately. Leatherman accessories are no longer gimmes; they’re à la carte. And if you want to take advantage of the included free shipping, you'd better buy the accessories when you buy the tool.

On one hand, I understand. Prices are increasing across the board, and likely, what is happening here is, instead of bumping their pricing further, Leatherman decided to no longer include a costly freebie that most people probably discard anyway. I, for one, have never once used an included Leatherman sheath, and I’ve owned dozens of Leathermans at this point. I don’t mind the sheath not being included in the least. I’d be much more likely to don the likes of a TaleofKnives belt sheath or something aftermarket anyway.

That said, also no longer including free bits with the upper echelon of tools, like the Arc, does feel like they tried to eek this one by without anyone noticing. That’s a bigger sting than the sheath, in my opinion.

For what it’s worth, Leatherman is currently running a 25% off sale on all accessories.

Carry of the Week

I like titanium and enjoy using and abusing my gear. I can't live without my sunglasses, a good pocket knife, and a multi-tool. I work on a farm, so there is no telling what each day is going to hold and what is going to break. I love my gear, and I'm always open to improvement.

I could use a good multi-tool or a Ti flashlight. Happy to hear any recommendations!
