We did HORRIBLE THINGS to a $500 Knife...
There's also a secret early drop happening tonight at 7 pm...
Hey all,
It’s been one month since we started working on this new evolution of the EDC Weekly and we couldn’t be more excited. The feedback we’ve received is overwhelmingly positive. (If there’s something you don’t like or think we should change, let me know by replying to this email.) To help keep things moving along, don’t forget to submit your carry or, if you are a brand, tell us about your upcoming drops.
This week is a little lighter on the drops and events compared to recent weeks, but there’s still plenty going on and great things to look forward to.

This Week at BDEDC
Umnumzaan Takes a Beating
For years now, I’ve said the Chris Reeve Umnumzaan would be my one-and-done folding knife. Period. But just how tough is it? Much like the Ozark Trail vs Bugout video, we put the Zaan through the gauntlet. Watch the video above to see how it fared.
And lucky, you! Everyone subscribed to the email list gets to see this one a few hours early.
Get a BDEDC Zippo Early
The cat’s out of the bag. We have a custom topo Zippo in brass coming out next week. But if you want to get your hands on one of the first few, we are selling some early on Whatnot tonight. We’re going live at 7 pm EDT.

We want to take a moment to thank the brands who make everything we do possible:

10/13: As if the all-titanium Exceed Designs TiRant RAZOR V3 wasn’t already super lightweight, they released a limited-run small batch of a fully Skeletonized Edition. It has all the same great features as the standard V3—such as a full spare hardware kit and spare blades and optional upgrades like Skiff bearings and a milled pry backspacer—but both sides are fully milled out, further reducing weight and creating a unique aesthetic. The Skeletonized Edition is still in stock at the time of writing for $135. |
10/13: Daily Customs specializes in helping you customize your Swiss Army Knife with slick aftermarket scales and titanium clips. This week, they released the Fluted Canvas Micarta scales for the 91.2mm model SAK. For more info on compatible SAK models, you can see a full list here. They also restocked G10 Diamond scales for the Boker-made AK1 fixed blade in three colors: Orange, Black, and OD Green. | via Daily Customs |
10/15: Novel Carry and Urban Carvers have teamed up to create USA-made Tile Sliders in Ultem. Thanks to the self-lubricating nature of Ultem and 12 strong neodymium magnets, the action is snappy and virtually silent, so you can fidget away without bothering those around you. Preorders for the Tile Sliders will run through the 30th of this month. Select 'Donate Shipping Fees' during checkout and 100% of shipping fees will be donated to the Rutherfordton Bound Foundation for Helene aid. |
10/16: Roxon Tools opened up a preorder for the Flex Companion, a completely modular multitool. Much like the original Flex, it takes up to seven open-source, modular tools, such as scissors, a saw, a knife, screwdrivers, tweezers, and more. All of these tools can be rearranged or swapped out for tools that fit the task at hand. The Flex Companion comes with six pre-installed tools and two bonus tools and will set you back $50. The preorder is open now and orders will be fulfilled by November 30. |
10/16: LynchNW has teamed up with Smoky Mountain Knife Works to make an exclusive EDC pry called the Hammerhead. Aptly named and designed by Tyler Pipes, CEO of SMKW, it features a hammerhead-esque pry end with a dual-sided bottle opener, nail pullers, and gills to boot. There are still 10 variants available, such as Volcanic Fade, Heat Seeker, Ice Blurple, and more. Each pry comes with a deep carry titanium clip and pricing starts at $107. |
Upcoming Drops and Events
10/18: Knives by Nuge will restock Primitive Wickets and Wicket XLs later today. The Primitive Wicket is a more rudimentary version of the standard Wicket model that features an epoxied, jute-wrapped handle, drop point blade in 80CrV2 steel, and a Scandi grind. They are thin, lightweight, and tough knives. The exact time for this drop isn't announced publicly, so if you want to be among the first to know, sign up for Nuge’s email list. |
10/18: The Jack Wolf Knives Bionic Jack drop happens today at 2 pm EDT. This knife shares DNA with the Cyborg Jack slip joint, but the Bionic Jack is a frame (or bolster) lock with a front flipper, featuring a 3.28 in (83.3 mm) hollow ground clip point S90V blade. Priced at $349.99, it comes in five configs: CamoCarbon Watermelon Sugar, Kirinite Liquid Gold Blackwash, Fat Carbon Frost Hand Satin, Titanium Stonewash, and Knife Center exclusive Crystalized Titanium Hand Satin. |
10/18: The August Originals Halloween drop happens tonight at 8:30 pm EDT. Just in time for spooky season, this drop will feature Frankentrays and Tallboy Prybars with Spiderweb Inlays. There will also be Sugarjaws and Tikijaws in the drop. And if you’re a fan of small, pocket-sized fixed blades, August Originals is tossing in a few variations of the Peyton Cleaver with OD green, orange, or black G-10 scales. |
10/18/2024: The NYC Windup Watch Fair is this weekend (Oct. 18-20). With room for over 110 vendors, all of the best watch brands will be on the scene, including some of our personal favorites like Lorier, Marathon, Oris, Vaer, and more. But if you think this event is explicitly watches, you’d be wrong. Other brands from around the EDC space will be in attendance as well, such as GiantMoust Knives, Pro-Tech, Vault, Nomatic, and Able Carry. If you’re in the neighborhood, it might be worth dropping in. |
10/24: The most quintessential Vero Engineering knife, the Synapse, returns on Thursday, Oct. 24. A handful of blade and handle options are in this drop, such as Stonewash, Blackwash, Belt Satin, Hand Satin, and Damasteel blades, and Stonewash Titanium, Blackwash Titanium, Black Micarta, Marbled Carbon Fiber, and Timascus handles. The Synapse features a 3.2” (81 mm) drop point blade with M390 steel, hot-swappable scales, and other customizable hardware. Pricing for the Synapse starts at $350. |
Open Preorders
We originally missed this one but Gear Infusion has an active Indiegogo campaign for the GhostTi, an ultra-minimalist, all-titanium everyday utility knife. This one has few differences from other similar tools, except the price for one is just $35 during the campaign or two for $65. After the Indiegogo ends in seven days, the price will increase to $50. The estimated delivery is in December.
The Manganas Steel Aurelia is a no-frills, get-the-job-done folder with a 3.6 in (91.44 mm) 63 HRC MagnaCut clip point blade, dual pivot (which works with Skiff bearings and washers), and a really slick pocket clip. The preorder is currently open for $280 and will run through the end of the month.
Mr. Mr. Designs is currently running a preorder for the upcoming ÆON, an ultra-clean design where the hardware is completely hidden on the show side. This Bestech-made flipper is available for preorder for $265 through the end of the year, though there is an expected wait time of six to seven months.
Carry of the Week
This is just some brass gear I had in my pocket and in my bag. I love the brass scales on my PM2. DNA Lasering always a does great work.
From the Community
If you could only have five knives—PERIOD—which ones would you keep? It’s a tough question to answer and the absolute chads over at Dutch Bushcraft Knives tackled it.
If you want more info and a deeper look at the Roxon Flex Companion, our buddy Dom at Maxlvledc uploaded a detailed video on the new multitool.
