The Best EDC Gear of 2025
Which gear rose above the rest in 2025?
It’s fair to say 2025 has been a tumultuous year in more ways than one, and the gear world has been no different. We got a truly innovative knife design from a knife sharpener company, a fresh take on a classic from the world’s favorite multitool company, a brand new multitool that nearly broke Kickstarter from a popular YouTube channel, and I—definitely not a knife designer—designed and launched three different designs with three different companies.
There has also been no shortage of newness and innovation outside of the knife and multitool world, so I decided to break all of this down into a Gear of the Year video, which is now live over on the YouTube channel. You can also find it embedded down below.
For one last time this year, thank you all, and let's do the damn thing.

This Week At BDEDC
Deep Cuts
In this year’s final Deep Cuts, I break down my top EDC picks for 2025 across 10 categories, from folders and fixed blades to multitools, watches, and everything in between. I'm also sharing what you voted as your community favorites and revealing which piece of gear I actually carried the most this year. Whether you're looking to upgrade your EDC or just curious what made the cut, this is my definitive gear roundup for 2025.
As always, don’t forget about the giveaway at the end of the video (and the entry instructions at the bottom).
Too late…
I know, it’s too late to matter at this point, but I did make one last gift guide. If you’re just now seeing this, earmark it and come back to it for some affordable things you can do with that Christmas cash that’s burning a hole in your pocket.
Carry Commission

We had an absolutely mad November and December at Carry Commission, but our last drop of the year was one for us. It’s a hoodie, and it’s a damn good one at that. It features our Blood, Sweat, & Gear graphic on the back and our CC Machete logo up front.
The real business here is the hoodie it’s printed on. It’s a Live & Tell Luxury hoodie. It’s not only soft, roomy, and comfy, it also features no kangaroo pocket up front. Instead, it has self-lined, side seam pockets. It may seem like a small detail, but once you get used to these pockets on a hoodie, you won’t want to go back. We still have a few left, so go treat yourself to the most comfy hoodie you’ve ever put on.

Carry of the Week
The fixed blade is the North Edge Tools Backpacker. I just picked it up and I’m really liking it so far. Right now I’m carrying it in the pocket—yeah, it’s a little on the big side for pocket carry, but it actually works great. I can’t even tell it’s in my pocket.
A couple of things that really set the Backpacker apart are the GripTec handle scales and the fact that the knife is designed to be run scale-less if you want. You can strip it down and carry it bare bones, wrap it with paracord, or set it up however you like. I’d never heard of this type of handle material before. I usually stick with more traditional options like G10, Micarta, wood, or metal—but I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m glad I did. The handle material is grippy, comfortable, and feels like it’ll hold up well over time.
The Magnacut blade came hair-shaving sharp right out of the box.
Next in the lineup is the Teale Designs Self-Defense Pry Bar and the SureFire Stiletto Pro.
The rest of the carry is all Dango Products. The Dango Mini Pen is super light and basically disappears in the pocket. Both wallets are titanium, RFID-blocking, and absolutely rock solid. I’ve got the badge insert installed in the M1 Maverick Rail Wallet.
I don’t really have a single favorite EDC setup—I enjoy mixing and matching everything I carry. That’s part of what makes EDC fun.
Thanks for your consideration.
Giveaway
Since we missed most of November, we’re rolling that giveaway into December. What’s in the giveaways is as follows:
Instructions to enter the November giveaway are as follows:
Go to this week’s Deep Cuts video and comment, and tell me what the worst job you’ve ever had was, and if there was a piece of gear that made it better. It could be a knife, a multi-tool, or any other piece of gear—it doesn’t have to be EDC necessarily. Use the hashtag #SAVEDBYTHEGEAR for a chance to win the giveaway.
